First time here? You belong.
The Sioux Falls AWS User Group brings together people who want to learn, build, and share their experience with Amazon Web Services. You can be exploring your first cloud service, changing careers, or operating a production system. Curiosity is a good starting point.

Your first visit
Section titled “Your first visit”- Find an event on Meetup. Read the description and RSVP there. The event listing has the confirmed date, venue, agenda, and any changes.
- Check what to bring. A talk may only need your curiosity. A workshop may ask for a laptop, an AWS account, or setup work. Follow that event’s instructions.
- Check arrival details. Use the event’s address and parking information. Past meetups have been held at Startup Sioux Falls, but future venues may differ.
- Introduce yourself. Tell the organizer that it’s your first visit. If you’re coming alone, a simple “What are you working on?” is a great conversation starter.
- Ask a question or just listen. You don’t need a certification, a job in tech, or an AWS project to take part in the conversation.
What do we get together for?
Section titled “What do we get together for?”The group’s Meetup description highlights technical sessions, hands-on workshops, architecture conversations, and informal cloud socials. The format and experience level vary by event; check the individual listing before you RSVP.
We’re here to exchange practical knowledge, learn from one another, and grow the local cloud community. You don’t need to represent an employer to join.
When we meet
Section titled “When we meet”All meetups are free of charge. Food is provided and sponsored by the AWS User Group community for members who RSVP.
The group aims for a formal meetup every other month, with a Cloud Coffee in between. Gatherings are usually the first week of the month. If that week is a holiday, they shift to the second week.
A date is confirmed when it is published on Meetup. Until then, the tentative schedule is the list we’re working from.
New to AWS itself?
Section titled “New to AWS itself?”- Understand the basics: AWS Getting Started has tutorials and foundational material.
- Learn at your pace: AWS Skill Builder offers free learning content alongside paid subscriptions and experiences.
- Try a small project: Our first-lab guide helps you choose a manageable experiment and plan cleanup.
- Explore your interests: Browse our learning resources for architecture, workshops, and AI.
You don’t need to open an AWS account just to attend a talk. If a workshop needs one, its instructions should explain that.
Another way to build
Section titled “Another way to build”- Workshops: Hands-on workshops are already in our learning resources.
- Hackathons: Builder Center hackathons are timed builds for practicing skills and meeting other builders.
- Toolbox: The Builder Center toolbox lists tools AWS publishes for builders.
